Race War Season III

Race War’s third season commences today with the mirror matches to determine the “Race Hero”. For each game won a player is awarded an extra thirty dollars, giving heroes the opportunity to earn more money.

The civil matches will be played today and tomorrow using a best of one format, this brings the total to three mirror games per race.

The Race War begins March 24th and finished on the 29th with six games in total, one per day. Each team is awarded one point per map win using a best of two system, making draws a likely scenario.

Each player will be given a letter A – D, the competitors will play the corresponding letter in each match, so if SaSe, Lucifer, Grubby and Rainbow are all letter A, they will all play one another in their race matches.

The European’s aren’t particularly well represented this season with only three players competing, compared to China’s six and Korea’s seven. The human and undead team’s are both without European players despite some great players like SonKiE, elfittaja, XlorD and of course ToD who was probably offered a spot, but had to turn it down.

The orc team looks solid this season with a great mixture of players. xiaOt’s undead game has slipped recently and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him drop the ball vs. Team undead, his mirror game is quite good though, which should come in handy with his civil matches.

Fly100’s online performance has a tendency to slip away from him at times, but his mirror game is solid beating Lyn in CEG and NSL, which again should come in handy for his civil matches.

Lyn has been playing incredible lately, also with a tremendous mirror match, beating Grubby twice in the EM finals and taking back a win vs. Fly100 during the NSL. Lyn’s NE match is arguably his weakest and I expect if he goes up against SoJu or ReMinD he might have a spot of trouble.

Grubby’s game of late has been consistent as always, his mirror match is arguably weaker than that of Fly’s or Lyn’s, but it’s never wise to say Grubby can’t. His human game has definitely progressed and should serve him well against whoever he faces in the human match.

Of the team’s, Orc seems to have the best line-up, in my opinion, with four very well rounded players. The human team is definitely lacking from another highly experienced player, Rainbow is notoriously inconsistent, there’s no telling how he might perform. Night elf too has been lumbered with a notoriously fickle player in SaSe, who had a decent performance at the SEC finals just a short while ago, but given recent trends it’s impossible to say whether it’ll carry into this event.
