In a surprising turn of events, late last night WICKED eSports revealed that they would not replace Beijing E-sports Team at the WC3L finals, despite having a legitimate claim to do so. WICKED continued to surprise today by announcing the release of their entire Warcraft III team.
In a press release issued via the team website, WICKED e-Sports’ management cited the following reasons for the team’s release “the lack of prospects with this team and different opinions about the future of the established brand wicked.” The inability to settle contract terms was also listed as reasons for the teams dismissal.
The team, albeit through another teams inability to attend, qualified for the WC3L finals, WPL playoffs and were two matches shy of qualifying for the NGL finals too, which calls into question the “lack of prospects” the press release mentions.
As of yet we don’t know if the team will remain together and continue to compete, but it’s unlikely we’ll see any of the players retire over this.
